The Ins And Outs Of Comparing Water Filters.

By Peter Abertoning

Many people worry about the purity of their drinking water.

There are now so many contaminants found in our water unfortunately. You can find chlorine, lead, drugs and way more in our municipal water that you , (but not me) drink daily. So for many people a good water purification system is a must. And there's so many different types of water filter to choose from.

Before choosing the right type of purification system for your home, its important to compare water filters beforehand. Here are some tips on how to choose the right filter for your drinking water.

Carbon water filters are about the most effective water filters. They trap contaminants as they travel over a charcoal filter medium, and remove them from the water. And carbon water filters are quite cost competitive.

When you compare water filters, its a good idea to take carbon water filters into consideration.

Reverse osmosis water filters another one of the types of systems to consider when you compare drinking water filters. This type of filtration system works by purifying water through a very small membrane. While this water filtration system is known to be fairly effective, the process is also known to be fairly slow.

Whole house water filters are a good option if you want to filter your water for everything you use in the house like drinking, showering and washing. A great option but more expensive than just filtering your drinking water, for example.

You can also get water filters that distill the water. As this removes just about everything it may sound ideal, but in reality is less then perfect. This is because distillation removes all the minerals from the water and this can be a problem in itself. If you remove the minerals your body can become deficient in various minerals as it relies on these in your water.

So there is really a very wide range of water filters available to the consumer, this is just some. They work very differently and have different costs, and so it can be quite a complicated process choosing the best water filter.

I often talk to people about water filters and find often that the technical aspects of how they work are too difficult. Usually they just ask me to tell them which one is the best water filter available.

The best water filter is actually a modified form of carbon, or charcoal, water filter. As simple carbon water filter is good, but doesn't remove all contaminants. But there is a modern form of carbon, or activated carbon, water filter that combines the benefits of carbon filtration with a second stage of mechanism to remove the impurities that aren't removed by the carbon.

And surprisingly these 2 stage activated carbon water filters are very cost competitive as well, which is always a nice surprise.
