Start a Cake Decorating Business: Turning Your Creativity into Cash

By Maria Campbell

If you would like to start a cake decorating business, there are several steps you need to take to make sure that your new venture is both profitable and fulfilling.

First of all, you must have a lot of creativity to come up with great ideas for cakes in your mind and then bring those to fruition. Do you think that you have that kind of creativity? Can you create awesome ideas out of thin air for your clients?

Second, do you have money saved to start a new business venture? When you start a cake decorating business, you really do not have to have much cash. However, you will need to invest in good training materials and some start up supplies. If you know where to find training and supplies for the best deal, you will do great!

Next, decide what niches you will focus on to begin your new business. Will you market to brides? Perhaps you will focus on baby shower cakes. You may consider making intricate and unique birthday cakes.

There are so many niches that you can work with, but it is a great idea to choose just one to start and get really good at it. Do not try to do everything at once. Become the best cake maker in one niche first!

The method of training you choose is really important to your long term success. You may decide that you want to go to a local store and do live training. Many people, however, choose to take training at home via video or internet so that they can practice over and over.

You will also want to consider the time investment when you start a cake decorating business. You certainly have to invest time in training as well as creating your cakes.

As with any business, cake decorating takes time and effort.
